Engagement session planning

Come as yourselves. Leave with a small piece of history.

Use the session planner to choose the right pace, location energy, and outfit rhythm. Then build a date around it so the camera is only one part of the evening.

A simple structure

Enough direction to feel easy. Enough room to feel real.

Most sessions work beautifully in 60–90 minutes. Two hours helps when the route, travel, or a meaningful outfit change deserves breathing room.

Before the session

Three choices that make everything easier.

Coordinate, never costume

Choose a shared level of formality and a related color story. Bring a second look only if it changes the energy—not just the clothes.

Plan for real weather

Watch wind, tide, temperature, and walking conditions. A backup should feel like another good idea, not a punishment.

Make it a date

Build the session around something you already enjoy. A walk, a drink, records at home, or a favorite neighborhood gives the photographs a center.

Choose one setting with room to move, one comfortable outfit to begin, and a meaningful activity together. Leave time for the in-between moments.

More to think through

Plan a session you can settle into

Before you arrive

Choose comfortable outfits you can move in, check the forecast and parking, and bring a small bag for water and essentials. Plan hair, makeup, and travel without rushing into the session.

One connected route

Start in one setting and use nearby variety. Save a change of outfit or second location for a session long enough to support it. A walk, coffee, home ritual, or favorite landscape can hold the story together.

After the session

Enjoy the date you planned around it. Previews and the full gallery are separate; still-film scans may follow their own lab timeline. Pick a few favorites for your home, save-the-dates, or anniversary tradition.

Let the session feel like time together.

Pick a place with meaning, an outfit you can move in, and one activity you would enjoy without a camera. We will help with the light and the rest.

A closer look

Build a small story, not a shot marathon.

From The Combs Creative studio archive

Choose one activity or place with meaning: a favorite neighborhood, a record-store stop, or the landscape you escape to together. Add time to settle in, a practical outfit change, and one weather alternative.

Plan with confidence

Four sessions. Four different feelings.

A place, an activity, or a little architectural drama can give a session its direction. Choose a setting that feels personal, then leave enough time for the experience to unfold.
